Rufous Hummingbird - Selasphorus rufus
The Rufous is a small stocky hummingbird that has a long rounded tail. The bill is short, less than the length of his head. When perched the wing tips will fall well short of the tail. You will usually see some green on the crown and back. The adult male has an orange-red gorget that normally has a slight flare on the sides. Found throughout much of the western United States during spring and summer. This picture was taken during fall migration as they head back to Central and South America.
