This Killdeer is showing the "broken wing" watch me tactic used by parents to distract one from their nest. I came upon her on a sandbar in the San Pedro river in early June of 2011. She was on the sandbar watching two fledglings roam about. Killdeer are found year round in Arizona normally in fields, lawns, riverbanks, mudflats, and along the shore of ponds and lakes.
