Green-tailed Towhee

The Green-tailed Towhee, Pipilo chlorurus, is the smallest towhee, but is still one of the larger American sparrows. This Towhees breeding range covers most of the interior western U.S. Although they winter here in Arizona I usually only see them during the summer. The Green-tailed can usually be found on brushy mountain slopes, open pine woods with brush, and brushy riparian woods. The Green-tailed is one of the 4 species of Towhees I've had in my yard. This picture was taken at the end of April in 2011.
