The Black-chinned hummingbird is probably the most common hummingbird in the western United states. The Black-chinned is a fairly small, slender hummingbird. The bill is longer than the head, and straight. When perched the wings will not quite reach the end of the tail. The adult male has a dull green iridescence above, with a black chin and a fairly straight border of violet below, followed by a broad white colar.
